What is Early Years Initial Teacher Training?

The EYITT GEB route is a 10 month training programme, fully funded by the Department for Education (DfE), for graduates who have experience of working with children in the birth to five age range and are employed in an early years setting.

Following successful completion of the EYITT GEB programme, EYTS is awarded. With EYTS qualification, practitioners can teach birth to five within Academies, Free Schools, Independent Schools and within the Private, Voluntary and Independent (PVI) sector which is the provision where most children in the EYFS attend.

The EYITT GEB route is an ideal route for early years settings seeking to upskill their existing staff and raise the quality of the early years provision they offer, as trainees learn ‘on the job’ studying part-time while in paid employment within their setting.

Who should apply for the EYITT GEB programme?

The EYITT GEB programme is designed for individuals looking to specialise in early childhood development and learning, making the care and education of babies, toddlers and young children their first concern. It is suitable for graduate practitioners working in a range of early years settings, including private nurseries, children’s centres, home-based settings and reception classes in academies and independent schools who meet (or will meet by the start of the course) the following entry requirements:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in any area of study (or equivalent)
  • GCSE Grade C/4 or above (or equivalent) in English language or literature, maths, and science.
  • Employed or will be employed in an early years’ setting for a minimum of 22.5 hours per week (or equivalent)
  • Right to study and work in the UK (prior to the start of the course)
  • Competence in spoken and written English

What are the benefits of completing the EYITT GEB programme and gaining EYTS qualification?

You are already a skilled Early Years Practitioner, possibly with several years’ experience, so how can gaining EYTS benefit you and your setting?

What you will learn?

The aim of our EYITT GEB programme is to develop the knowledge and skills of professionals so they can continue to champion the early years sector and the communities they serve.
